Reports to: CTO

Start Date: March/April 2023

Hours of Work: Full-time or 80% Part-Time

Salary: £50-60k PA

The Opportunity

As a Senior Conjugation Scientist your main objective will be to lead the development of conjugation strategies for our magnetic bead products. This will include developing new conjugation methods (e.g. literature search, drafting protocols, etc), performing conjugations, testing performance and defining the formulation of the final product. You will be involved in the whole life-cycle of the product. You will work closely with the Implementation and Biocompatibility teams to help define the characteristics of the final product to use in the clinic.  

Your day to day will require both project management (supplier management, allocation of resources, risk analysis, etc), and hands-on lab work. You will be expected to manage and contribute to the design and development of new products, as well as hands-on lab work. You will be expected to perform the necessary data analysis and interpretation and produce reports.

 

What You’ll Be Responsible for

  • Management of a team (initially 1 direct report).
  • Conjugation, purification and characterization of new Bead products.
  • Development and optimization of novel conjugation methodologies.
  • Creating product dashboards and reports.
  • Partner with colleagues on laboratory maintenance, including maintenance of equipment and lab safety.

 

What We Look for in a Candidate

  • Relevant Science degree (e.g. Biochemistry, Chemistry, Bioengineering).
  • Extensive conjugation/bioconjugation experience (5+ years).
  • Funtionalisation of beads knowledge/working experience.
  • Data analysis and interpretation experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in optimizing/troubleshooting protocols.
  • People Management (experience with at least 1 direct report).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and effective presentation of complex. scientific data.

 

Not Essential, but Helpful

  • Magnetic Bead knowledge/working experience.
  • Knowledge of biological interactions and/or binding kinetics to substrates.
  • Hands-on experience with immunoassays (e.g. ELISA), including method development.
  • Knowledge/work experience with viral vectors.
  • Medical device or IVD development background.
  • Haematology/blood interaction with beads or devices.
  • Working under an ISO13485 QMS.
